Engaging kids in traditional interventions can be challenging. That's why at Succeed Healthcare Solutions, we believe in making therapy fun, engaging, and visual using biofeedback programs.
Mightier Biofeedback Program:
Mightier's biofeedback technology helps to build self-regulation in kids, using motivating video games. The video games help children identify their feelings and use coping strategies such as slowing their heart rate through deep breathing and other calming techniques. The difficulty of the games change according to the child's heart rate, which is measured through a heart rate monitor worn on the child's wrist like a watch. Succeed Healthcare Solutions offers Occupational Therapy coaching in the use of the Mightier program, and the application of emotion regulation strategies learnt to everyday life. This includes goal setting, tracking progress, and practicing strategies in real life situations where emotions, worries or frustrations may impact function or learning.
Developed by a team of experts in psychiatry, neurology and child development at Boston Children's Hospital in 2017, studies have found that 45 minutes per week of playing Mightier reduced outbursts by 62 percent, decreased oppositional behaviours by 40 percent and lowered parent stress by 19 percent.
The game has similarities to the Zones of Regulation program by grouping emotions into colours. If players reach the 'red zone', the game pauses and plays an animation that guides the player through a deep breathing exercise. Many of the games children use in Mightier are popular games available on the Apple App Store or Google Play, and have been adapted for therapeutic play. Undertaken over 4 x one hour sessions with 30 minutes with the young person and 30 minutes with the carer.

HeartMath Biofeedback Program:
Did you know that the heart sends more signals to the brain than the brain sends to the heart? By learning to change the heart's signals to the brain, HeartMath technology teaches kids how to effectively reduce stress using equipment and/or HeartMath self-regulation techniques to self-activate and eventually sustain positive emotions. For more information see HeartMath. Undertaken over 4 x one hour sessions, with 30 minutes with the young person and 30 minutes with the carer.
