Ever wanted to be part of a sports team but found it hard to fit in? Want to build your confidence, coordination, be active, address your sensory or emotional challenges, and have fun? Try this seasonal sports based occupational therapy program designed to help kids become part of a team. Sports include soccer, cricket, netball, dodgeball, and modified AFL, rugby, basketball drills etc according to the season and interest of the players.
Starting with each players strengths, foundational skills required for mainstream team sports are taught in this program. These skills are not generally overtly taught during mainstream sport, which can lead to kids and young adults feeling overwhelmed in mainstream sports programs. Associating with like-minded players will also foster a sense of community.
Training sessions are held indoors on Saturday mornings in North Lakes for young people (teams matched according to age/stage). At the more predictable indoor venue of Northside Indoor Sport & Fitness, your young person won't have to battle with the outdoor elements whilst trying to learn team sport skills. Infrequent sports field training sessions (and some BBQ's!) are also incorporated into the program, to ensure generalisation of the skills learnt to the usual environment that these sports are played in.
One hour (10-11am) includes team sport activities and half an hour (9.30-10am) offers and opportunity for young people to have a drink and a snack and practice 'trading information' (conversation skills). Shorter sessions can be negotiated for those with developing attention spans.
*Private hourly individual rate is $195. NDIS hourly individual rate is $193.99. Cost for the group Program of Support will average about $170 per hour including a complete customer experience tailored to your young persons' needs (break down of fee schedule to be provided upon enquiry).
